Today I will continue talking about Tai Lung Hing, the father of my maternal grandfather. He left two young boys behind after he and his teammates were executed in October 1944 by the Japanese soldiers on the beach of the Big Wave Bay on the Hong Kong Island. The elder boy is called Tai, Kwok Woon at age of 5 and the younger of 3, called Tai, Kwok Yuen who is my maternal grandfather. After the death of her husband was known, the mother left the family and never returned. The two boys were then taken care of by a spinster sister of their father staying in the family. This auntie is my maternal great grand auntie. She is a very intelligent lady, not knowing how to write or read because she has never been allowed to go to school to study during her time. She would put an “X” as her signature when she was required to sign. She started very early each morning to the field to grow vegetables. She used a pole to carry her vegetables harvest to the local market for sale. With the money received, she bought rice, meat, fish and other food stuff home to feed the boys. She knew the importance of education and wanted the boys to study diligently. The two brothers were good and obedient boys. As a result, they were, like their father, admitted to the best schools. The elder brother got admitted to the Queen’s College and the younger to the King’s College. They remain the top schools up to present time. They did well in their studies and got very good jobs after their graduation. The elder brother retired from the Hong Kong Government after 41 years of service. My maternal grandfather graduated from the University of Sydney in Australia. They both had very successful profession. My maternal great grand auntie is a super super woman. She died at the age of 82 in Hong Kong. We will remember and honor her forever.
